Honda Insight: First Hybrid Ever To Top The Best-Selling Car List in Japan

Many, many years ago, Toyota introduced a revolutionary car, the Prius, on the market. It was a “hybrid” meaning its engine could switch between gas and electric drive modes.

Now, the new Honda Insight is the best-selling car in Japan for the month of April. It is the first time ever that a hybrid car tops the list here in Japan (or anywhere in the world).

Honda has a clever function that uses a color enhanced speedometer background, to provide real-time guidance on environmentally responsible driving: When you’re driving efficiently, the background color is green. When you are driving in a more aggressive manner, it turns blue (not great for fuel efficiency). If your driving style is somewhere in between, the color will be blue-green. This Eco Guide function provides feedback about your driving techniques. I like how the Eco Scoring function gives feedback on the cumulative, long-term driving style.

As you drive more efficiently over time, the system rewards you with leaf icons and even a trophy when you become a real pro.
